2025 SCMA MID-YEAR CONFERENCES: GOOD-BYE OCEAN SANDS, HELLO LANDMARK RESORT

The South Carolina Moose Association, also known as the SCMA held its Mid-Year Conferences this past weekend at the Landmark Resort in Myrtle Beach. The event attracted approx. 180 Moose members from all over the state. All 13 Lodges were represented. The Official Visitor from Moose International was Troy King, the Asst. Director of Membership for the Moose Fraternity. State Secretary Tammy Trulove’s tireless efforts planning and pulling this all together paid off as the Association really hit one right out of the park. The Association Banquet and Awards Presentation Ceremony was brought back after a 5 year-long hiatus and was one of the many highlights of the Conferences. The Easley Moose Lodge sponsored a Hospitality room where all Moose could gather and enjoy each other’s company while listening and dancing to a variety of music after the conferences daily. The Landmark had an onsite restaurant, lounge, exercise room, indoor pool, hot tubs and a lazy river where our Association held two rubber ducky races in the evenings. All and all, this Moose had a ball while picking up so many great ideas. Who says you can’t teach an “Old Moose” new tricks? Y’all might want to plan to attend the next gathering of SC Moose at the SCMA Year-End in October also to be held at the Landmark Resort. Rumor has it that there will be an indoor State Cornhole Tournament run and that Karaoke will be added to the Hospitality Room.

“It’s a Threepeat!”
For the third straight campaign, Moose membership increased, and by a whopping 30,292!
Overall, Moose membership has eclipsed 905,614 in a further sign of stability for the
Fraternity in the “Proud Past, Bright Future” campaign, which ended April 30.
“Our efforts to increase membership started in the first days of the 2023-24
campaign and never wavered. There was never a month where we weren’t outperforming
the previous year, and the previous year was a year in which membership had increased.
It was a great effort by the men and women of our great Fraternity,” Director of
Membership Mike Rios said.
Helping solidify the Fraternity’s membership gain were the retention efforts by
members. Moose have signed new members in droves in the past, but lost more than they
signed. Rios said strong retention efforts reflect the daily work done by lodges across the
U.S. and Canada to help members have positive experiences.
“Retention starts the day we sign a member. If we want to keep them, we have
to value them. I always say that if a member doesn’t feel that he or she’s getting
value from their membership, they won’t stay as members,” Rios said.
Moose Legion and Women of the Moose membership also increased, by
303 members and 4,023 members, respectively. In a further sign of stability for
the Fraternity, giving to Moose Charities reached record numbers as well.
“The phrase we used to say all the time was ‘members and money.’ The
Fraternity thrives if it has more members and our support of Mooseheart and
Moosehaven is strong only if our members have giving hearts. What this says to
me is that not only are we signing more members, but we are also signing the right kind of
members, people who are making our Fraternity stronger through their membership,”
Rios added that there is nothing keeping the Fraternity from a fourth straight
increase in the current “Embrace Our Community” campaign, which started May 1 and
ends April 30, 2025.
“If we continue to do things the right way, sign members and tell them what we support
and work to retain those members, we can absolutely do it. It’s going to take hard work, but we can do it,” Rios said.
